Volcan de mi Tierra Debuts Tahona Made Blanco

The use of a Tahona, a wheel made of volcanic stone, is an incredibly traditional method of crushing roasted agave pina in order to separate the agave liquid from the pulp prior to fermentation and distillation to create agave spirits.

It is considered to be an artisanal approach that is laborious and requiring of expertise to handle, but is also said to produce smoother and sweeter tequila and mezcals. It trades off efficiency for flavour retention, and hence is favoured by agave aficionados.

LVMH-owned Volcan de mi Tierra, a collaboration between LVMH and the Gallardo family, is thus debuting a new Tahona-made Blanco expression of tequila, where the team has used a two-ton flintstone wheel to create the expression.

The result is a "crisp, herbal and subtly sweet" tequila with notes of spice, cooked agave, dulche de leche, almond, and a hint of light smokiness.

Volcan de mi Tierra makes use of 100% Blue agave that is then aged in French and American oak casks for its aged expressions.

The new Volcan de mi Tierra Blanco Tahona is priced at RRP US$153.
