Flavour Profile: Fruity and Spicy
Benriach is no stranger to the world of whiskies, having been around since the late 19th Century. The name Benriach itself originated from its founder having broken ground for the new distillery on a small hill, or “Ben”, at the site of an old farm, a “Riach”.
And if you've been around for more than a century, you're bound to rack up some traditions. And Benriach is known for a few, namely their unique use of sweet, earthy, Highland peat to create a smokey whisky unlike what you'll typically find with medicinal, herbal Islay malts. This tradition is captured in Benriach's small batch bottling, Smoke Season, which brings back for just once a year a Highland smoked peat to create a sweet, fruity, umami dram.
