Flavour Profile: Fragrant and Floral
It’s been quiet in the Japanese whisky scene the past couple of years as we’ve seen expressions go MIA. And suddenly, just as quietly, an all new limited edition bottle of Taketsuru appears.
A sheer fruit basket, this dram is floral, fruity and honeyed, but boy does it pack a punch! On the nose: Some simmering down is key, but it does pay off with fruity green apples and apricots, layered with fragrant honey and a light tartness. The palate is light bodied and delicately sweet with delightful vanilla and jasmine swirls, a tingly spiciness carries it through. The characteristic Mizunara scent of agarwood is simply breathtaking. The finish medium, clean, and a mix of desiccated coconuts, grilled pineapples and just a whiff of smoke. A perfect Japanese expression.
