It is rare to encounter an officially-bottled Macduff single malt. The vast majority Macduff's whiskies are sent to create blends like Dewar's, while a little is left for original releases and a small handful of independent bottlers like The Single Cask.
This expression was matured in a refill bourbon hogshead before being transferred into an Oloroso hogshead for finishing. Typical Macduff single malts are light, fruity and slightly nutty. This bottling subverts the house style and dives deep into the delicious depths of sweet dried fruits, caramel and aromatic coffee.
Nose: Dulce de leche, toffee, peach liqueur, angelica root, coffee bean, sultana.
Palate: Immediately identifies itself with dried fruits and light rancio, more raisins and prunes, reminiscent of older-styled sherry finished whiskies. Rich and gummy honey, white pepper, nutmeg, cloves, gummy, mandarin peels.
Finish: Lasting, drying, savoury dried fruits and peaches.
