Port Dundas is an important silent distillery many have not heard of. In the late 19th century, it was known as the blending powerhouse of Scotland, supplying grain whisky to be used in Johnnie Walker, Black & White, White Horse, J&B, Bell's, Vat 69 and Haig Club. After over 100 years of operation, it was permanently closed in 2011 for Diageo to shift grain production to another distillery.
This rare expression comes as the supply of Port Dundas in the world dwindles. It was matured in an ex-bourbon hogshead for 9 years before being bottled by The Single Cask. It opens with a very fresh and lively palate, with a background layer of florals and spice.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Subtle aromas at cask strength but the floral complexities come through with water.
Palate: Very lively palate; floral esters and light spices. Very drying, with hints of coconut and apples.
Finish: Long finish with malty and nutty notes.
