Tobermory is the only distillery situated on the Isle of Mull, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands. The distillery produces 2 lines of single malt - the unpeated Tobermory and peated Ledaig.
The distillery's wood policy was significantly improved after acquisition by Burn Stewart Distillers in 1993. This meant thoughtful selection of more appropriate and higher quality oak casks for maturation.
This Tobermory expression was put into an ex-bourbon hogshead in 1995 and matured for 24 years before being bottled by The Single Cask. The long maturation allows the Tobermory to truly shine, revealing lots of sweet cereal notes, florals and tea in a complex and nuanced dram.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Malt, floral hints and lime initially, followed by lemon, green tea and oak.
Palate: Sweet malt, floral hints, coconut and orange at the fore, followed by green tea, oak, black pepper and lemon.
Finish: Medium finish with oak, lemon, malt and green tea alongside some sea salt.
