Shedshaker Brewing Celtic Red Ale x The Cranberries - Zombie

In some of our earlier posts, we hinted at a theme. The theme we have is the album that delivered the #1 track in the @triple_j Hottest 100. Our favourite countdowns are from 1994 to 2010, so we'll focus on those countdowns.

The first album is @thecranberries Album No Need To Argue, whose seminal track "Zombie" was the most popular song of 1994 as voted by the listeners of @triple_j

This album is one we hadn't heard in full before, but it's full of perfect storytelling and listening to the songs paints a vivid picture of the story; the same as you'd get from reading a novel.

The song writing from Dolores O'Riordan is powerful and somewhat tragic, with the themes Heartache, Introspection and Reflection are very strong in this album.

The track "Zombie" was written by O'Riordan after she was deeply affected by the deaths of two young boys after the bombing in Warrington, UK by the IRA. "I remember seeing one of the mothers on television, just devastated," O'Riordan told Vox magazine in 1994. "I felt so sad for her, that she'd carried him for nine months, been through all the morning sickness, the whole thing and some… prick, some airhead who thought he was making a point, did that."

The album topped the charts in 9 countries, including Australia, France, Germany and Spain was a top #5 album in another 5 countries. Worldwide, the album has sold over 17 million copies, and "Zombie" has been played over 540 million times on @spotify

Now for the beer, pretty soon after starting this album; we realised that brew style needed to match the country of origin of the band. So we found ourselves reaching for the Celtic Red Ale from @shedshakerbrewing from Castlemaine in Central Victoria. We love the malty body and toffee flavours. The depth of this beer really matches this album perfectly.
