"Imperial Rye Stout aged in Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey barrels with toasted coconut, Violet Dry cocoa nibs & Salted Caramel" (from the label)
I start with the appearance today as it's pretty ugly: pour black, thick with carbonation that creates a dry dark brown head that vanished in seconds... however when it dissipates it leaves a swamp of floating material which I felt needed to be skimmed, but I didn't do it.
On the nose, through the swamp, the first voice told me: Hey this is great beer, listen: coconut, chocolate, hazelnut, rye, whiskey, hazelnut. Smells absolutely delicious.
Tastes as it smells, medium sweetness and low bitterness, a lot of coconut, chocolate and vanilla, rye whisky and roasted rye. All melting and tasty with tasty viscosity in the after taste.
Thick, creamy and slick, low carbonation, booze amazingly hidden (well it is boozy, but doesn't feel like a 14%).
Appearance isn't everything, this bottle might be the ugly duckling, but the swan has been released. Delicious and (main point) not sickeningly sweet for the style.
