Ocho Tequila has announced the release of its first extra añejo in two years.
The Extra Añejo is crafted from agaves that are harvested after an extended eight-year growth period, surpassing the industry standard of seven years.
This extended maturation is said to allow the agaves to develop a higher sugar content, contributing to the unique flavor of the tequila. The name "Ocho" (Spanish for "Eight") itself is a direct reference to this distinctive aging process.
The extra añejo is aged three years in ex-American whiskey barrels that previously held tequila fillings. The final spirit is said to have notes of cherries, dark chocolate, prunes and raisins with a palate of cooked agave, roasted coffee and orange peel.
The bottle will feature a new design with a “fingerprinted” glass texture that pays homage to the agave spirits. Each bottle is complete with a scannable QR code containing information on the field profile, characteristics and terroir of each vintage.
At 40% ABV, the spirit will be available at a suggested retail price of $249, limited to just 720 cases.
