Bourbon giant Buffalo Trace is out with their 26th release in their Experimental Collection: Peated Bourbon.

The new Peated Bourbon expression was created from 6 barrels of Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskies that were distilled with smoked peated malt that was used as the flavoring grain instead of the standard barley.

This gave the bourbon a touch of smoke to the rye bourbon mash bill, which was then aged for 9 years and 5 months in newly charred white oak casks, before being bottled at 45% ABV.

The new expression will begin retailing in May 2023 at an MSRP of US$46.99 for the 375ml bottle.

Buffalo Trace's Experimental Collection was created to "explore how different mash bills, types of wood, barrel toasts, and environmental influences play a role in the flavor profiles of whiskey."
