Last April, Campari Group launched their newest tequila brand Mayenda Tequila, crafted by Maestro Tequilero Jesus Susunaga at Casa Sun Nicolas (NOM 1440). The brand debuted with a single Blanco expression, which uniquely blended distilled roasted agave and agave miel (honey).
A few months later, Mayenda is now expanding their product line with the launch of their second expression: a Reposado Double Cask. This expression was aged for six months in a mix of American and European oak casks, versus the typical two to three months that tequila reposados are aged for.
Jesus Susunaga, maestro tequilero at Casa San Nicolás, said: “With Mayenda Blanco, we knew we had unlocked new possibilities for expressing deeper flavours of the agave, thanks to the two extra steps in our signature process; yet it still felt like we had only scratched the surface of what was possible.
“When developing our reposado, we decided to employ a double cask maturation and longer ageing process. This resulted in an exceptionally smooth and balanced, aged Tequila that maintains the soul of our beloved Blanco.”
