Tequila maker Casa Azul has found a new home at its new La Roca distillery, this time located in Jalisco, Mexico.
La Roca (NOM 1646) was established by Tequila producer Alvaro Montes and the Montes family, who represent three generations of agave farmers (now turned distillers). This transition to La Roca is said to be a major milestone for the brand, representing an upgrade from Casa Azul’s previous distillery, Las Américas (NOM 1480).
Casa Azul has also said that the renewed partnership would allow it to bring even greater intention and precision to its Tequila-making process, enhancing quality and consistency from agave harvest to bottling.
Situated in the heart of Jalisco's most fertile agave-growing region, the La Roca distillery will allow the brand to "benefit from a blend of tradition and innovation that supports sustainable practices, allowing [Claze Azul] to deliver a consistently exceptional products to consumers," said Chief Marketing Officer Jorge Llauro.
The brand has indicated that they will continue to utilize traditional ovens for agave roasting, with enhanced stainless steel bases that significantly improve both heat efficiency and temperature control.
The La Roca operations will also utilize sustainable water management practices designed to reduce overall water usage. The water itself hails from a deep volcanic spring 250m beneath the Amatitán Mountain. This comes on top of sustainable agave-farming practices that promote soil health, reducing chemical runoff, and play a part in conserving local ecosystems. Following milling, the agave waste will be returned to the fields as organic fertilizer.
Production has already commenced at La Roca, with Casa Azul's inaugural Tequila from the new facility slated for release this summer.
