Japan Airlines (JAL) is proudly flying the Kanosuke banner high as it hopes to share The Story of Kanosuke with its passengers. To do this, JAL has collaborated with Kanosuke to create a JAL limited edition presentation set that includes a Kanosuke tasting glass, a cotton bag, booklet a bottle of Mellowed Kozuru from Kanosuke parent Komasa Jyozo, and finally a bottle of Kanosuke single cask whisky. A comprehensive telling of Kanosuke story!

Recall that the goal for Kanosuke's creation by fifth-generation Yoshitsugu Komasa was to use whisky as a gateway to bringing an international audience closer to appreciating his family's legacy core business of producing barrel-aged Shochu, being especially famous for introducing Japan to its first barrel aged Shochu, the Mellowed Kozuru. 

The single cask which most Kanosuke fans are probably most interested in will be a 5 Year Old Japanese single malt, distilled in 2018, that's been aged in Ex-Mellowed Kozuru Shochu Re-charred American White Oak Barrels, bottled at cask strength, and will sport an artist rendering of Kanosuke Komasa, the third-generation head of Komasa Jyozo who pioneered the creation of the Mellowed Kozuru, and for whom Kanosuke Distillery is named after.

The Story of Kanosuke presentation set is available for 54,000 Yen (or US$357), and is limited to customers who are JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) Japan region members who have flown on JAL international/domestic flights* in the past six years from April 1, 2018 to May 31, 2024 (excluding JAL codeshare flights operated by other companies). Eligible customers must apply via a lottery that will run from March 25, 2024 (Monday) - May 31, 2024 (Friday).

Official Tasting Notes

Colour: Reddish Amber

Aroma: Sweet scent of apple, cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel emerges, reminiscent of baked goods.

Taste: Soft sweetness reminiscent of milk chocolate, and the oakiness of the richer cask swells, with a faint aroma of hojicha.

Finish: Long sweet aftertaste with the bitterness of citrus and the freshness of green apple.
