- The No. 3 will be a global travel retail exclusive.
Macallan’s Concept series concludes with its third and final iteration, the David Carson Concept No. 3, named after its collaboration with the US graphic designer famous for his collage-style work with the likes of Nike, Pepsi, Ray Ban and more.
The series is exclusively travel retail and hence you’ll gather from the label that it was due for release last year, but unfortunately due to Covid, has been pushed to 2021.
The Macallan Concept Series ends with No. 3.
The whole basis of the Concept series is to feature inspiration behind the creativity and culture that is Macallan’s whiskymaking.
The Concept No. 3 itself comprises of whisky from first-fill, Sherry-seasoned American oak casks combined with a selection of European oak casks.
Its tasting notes:
Nose: Fresh pears and apricot
Palate: Oak spice, delicate herbal notes and vanilla sweetness
Finish: Buttery pastry notes
Something that stands out here is also that the NAS bottle will be bottled at 40.8% abv, as a result of David Carson’s and Macallan whiskymaker Polly Logan’s shared love for the number 8.
This isn’t the first time Macallan has collaborated with graphic designer David Carson, having previously worked together for a set of Macallan Archival Folio prints.
Collaborating with Carson, Macallan whiskymaker Logan had this to say,
“I was deeply inspired by [David’s] vibrancy, and drew on this to create a bright, fresh whisky. Its pale yellow colour, which we’ve named Californian gold, reflects David’s sun-soaked days as a surfer and it also reveals the citrus notes which shine through.
Whisky and art fans alike will appreciate the fine balance achieved in this wonderfully uplifting expression combining fruity notes of pear with warming cinnamon spice and a creamy, vanilla sweetness.”
The No. 3 itself will feature a presentation box styled with Carson’s designs and a label designed by the US graphic designer, including a bright chevron symbol bearing his signature.
The Macallan Concept No. 3 will be available in July across Macallan Boutiques in selected international airports after which it will make its way to the broader global travel retail market.
