South Korea's Kim Chang Soo Finally Sees First Flagship Korean Single Malt Whisky

 

South Korea's Kim Chang Soo whisky has certainly amassed a strong group of fans who have been following the distillery operated by the namesake distiller, Kim Chang Soo.

The distillery has now issued a heartfelt message accompanying the announcement of the launch of its first official whisky after more than 3 years in waiting, 

"I wanted to make a good first product, so I kept saying, “Let it age a little longer. Let it age a little longer. It's been a long time coming. We wanted to release as many of our Officials as possible because we know it's been hard for many of you to get your hands on them." said Kim Chang Soo.

"I've been running around trying to make Korean whiskey since I was in my 20s, and now that I'm approaching 40, I still feel like I'm just getting started. I'll keep moving forward to make better whiskey, reminding myself of the promise I made to myself 10 years ago when I first started making whiskey. In the meantime, I would like to thank all of you for your support and patience with Kim Chang Soo Whisky. We appreciate it."

 

The new Korean single malt whisky from Kim Chang Soo is a blend of 9 casks aged between 3 years and 1 month to 3 years and 7 months.

Furthermore, the distillery has said that whilst previous releases have focused on expressing its whiskies as single casks that showcased the changing maturation periods in Korea's fluctuating climate, and therefore have used only small European oak Sherry casks or Korean oak casks, this first flagship whisky will aim to deliver a more complex flavour and a more accessible taste by blending various types of casks based on maturation over three years, which will include wine casks, American oak Sherry casks, and ex-Bourbon casks.
