Bitter Campari - "Dopo La Terra...Gli Astri" (1958)

This vintage poster was designed by Italian artist Nino Nanni in 1958, and was commissioned by the Campari Group to advertise the Bitter Campari in Italy.

A Bitter Campari bottle is transformed into a rocket orbiting the Earth! The accompanying text reads: "After the Earth...The Stars."

The cheekiness of this poster becomes apparent when one realises it was released in 1958. This was one year after the launch of Sputnik 1, the first artificial Earth satellite, which subsequently set in motion a Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union that would hold a grip over global audiences for years.

The advertiser playfully references the ongoing battle, positioning Campari as yet another global superpower - of liquor production that is! - worthy of the masses' attention.
