We're back with another Ozeki wonder!
Ozeki is by today's standards a household staple and is a well-established name that is also just as well distributed not just in Japan but worldwide.
The brewery has done well to build its success since its founding in 1711, and has made numerous notable achievements, most obvious of which is its pioneering of the one cup miniature sized Sake!

And today we're going to try the Ozeki Josen Kinkan (Gold) Sake.
This is within the flagship range of Ozeki Sakes and is designed to be a balanced Sake between sweet and dry, and is said to be optimal for food pairing at a great price and availability. This is Ozeki's answer to producing a very versatile Sake.
Let's try it!
Sake Review: Ozeki Josen Kinkan (Gold) Sake | 大関 金冠上撰
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Quite flowery and dry with an accent of soy sauce aromas. There's a mix of chrysanthemum tea, light soy sauce and melon.
Taste: Delightfully tart and dry. An initial burst of lime zest with a hint of sweetness, which is followed up by a dry hook that reminiscent of parboiled rice.
Finish: There is a tinge of apricot pits as well - somewhat nutty with a slight bitter flavour at first. The subsequent finish is very subtle and clean, with a rinse of mineral water.
My Thoughts
A refreshing sake, light and dry, it's not cloying and doesn't hold down the palate, whilst also maintaining a flavour intensity that is appealing and stimulating. Excellent sake to start a tasting or to end off the day!
My Rating: 7.8/10
Score/Rating Scale :
- 9-10 : Exceptional, highly memorable, 10/10 would buy if I could.
- 7-8 : Excellent, well above most in its category, worth considering buy-zone.
- 4-6 : Good, okay, alright; a few flaws, but acceptable; not bad, but not my personal preference; still worth trying, could be a buy if the price is right.
- 1-3 : Not good; really did not enjoy; wouldn't even recommend trying.
- 0 : Un-scored, might be damaged, new make, or very unusual.
Till next time, happy sipping!
