Steve Clark was born on this day 23 Apr (1960) in Sheffield UK. Getting his first guitar at the age of 11 he later switched to electric guitar after hearing Led Zeppelin, joining a local covers band called Electric Chicken. Around 1978 he met founder and original guitarist of Def Leppard Pete Willis, and joined the band after an audition playing an unacompanied version of Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. He contributed as a major songwriter for the band's first four album.
Def.Leppard's High N Dry from 1981 is their 2nd album. This was a huge keap forward from their debut album, with stronger songs and more assured and powerful performance.
Bruichladdich Feis Ile 2015 High Noon. Signed by Jim McEwan, Head Distiller at the time. Bottle 1724/1881. 48.7% abv. Can't wait to pop this one.
Due to alcohol use problem, Steve Clark was given 6 months of leave from the band, which he never returned. He was found dead on the 8th Jan 1991 at age 30, the cause being a lethal mixture of alcohol and prescription drugs. By the time I saw Def Leppard Vivian Campbell had replaced Steve Clark.
