Angel's Envy, Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Port Wine Barrels, 43.3% abv.
Angel's Envy is the product of Brown-Forman Woodford Reserve’s retired master distiller, Lincoln Hendersen, of finishing bourbon in old Port barrels. Supposedly made by taking bourbon aged on the upper racks of their warehouse for about 5 to 7 years and then finishing them in Port barrels selected by Lincoln Hendersen for 3 to 6 months. Not sure how they select the Port Barrels (Port Pipes?) now. The mash bill is made up of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. I personally don't like the bottle design or "label", but I've heard many people like this.
Nose: cherry syrup, slight sherry notes.
Palate: smooth, bland artificial cherry soda and not the good kind.
Finish: short, perhaps some abv numbness.
Pretty bland stuff, reminds me of watered down cherry seltzer without the bubbles...like water. Had nothing to eat and nothing to drink prior to this pour. Not much else to say. Not sure why this is so popular. The first bartender helping me was a little shocked I didn't like it. Had this at Whiskey Down, Las Vegas, USA.
