Ben Nevis 26, d.1966, Bottle 61, 59% abv.
This bottling for BN was released for Japan.
Nose: full bodied, freshly cut twigs and branches, evolves into some dried fruit, develops a honey sap aroma, gearing towards a strong sherry profile. After awhile I get sweet steak sauce, some worchester and ketchup in there with the steak sauce.
Palate: wow, initial palate is sharp with a slight sourness, mid palate is powdery, full of dried fruits, a compote of fruits actually, back palate has a lot of dried fruit, accompanying vines, and earth. Full profile.
Finish: dry, long, dried fruit, earth, old coffee grinds, generally sweet.
This pour was amazing given time to air. Quite a flavor impact on this one, very delicious, foundation is a honey and dried fruit sweetness, but different from sherry for some reason. Not as overwhelming as some sherry bombs out there, but has the profile.
