Blanton's Single Barrell, Dump Date 4-4-16, Barrel No. 266, Warehouse H, Rick No. 11, 63.5% abv.
Elmer T. Lee, the master distiller at Buffalo Trace, released a new premium level bourbon in the mid-80's and named it after a previous master distiller, Colonel Albert B. Blanton. Elmer selected barrels filled with distillate using mash bill number two from Buffalo Trace's metal clad warehouse, warehouse H. The cap to every Blanton's is a figurine of a horse and jockey, of which eight designs exist, each of varying positions found in a horse race. Upon request, if you send these caps to Buffalo Trace, they can mount them onto a wooden stand and send it back to you. There are also a variety of Blanton's all over the world actually with varying "dump dates" as well. I've noticed many fathers requesting a Blanton's single barrel with a dump date of their newborn. Not a bad way to remember a wonderful day... or to help you remember your kids birthday.
Nose: honey, caramelized brown sugar, the skin of candied apples.
Palate: intense, well-bodied, chocolate, liked smoked applewood bacon separated from the applewood sweetness, sweetness is like dry candy.
Finish: short, honey and spice.
Wow! Intense stuff, was the only above normal abv drink tonight that tasted like it should. Got really sweet at the end. Much better than Stagg Jr. for such a high abv, but grades lower than BTAC George T. Stagg or BTAC William Larue Weller.
Grade: B
