Colonel E.H. Taylor Straight Rye, 1st and only, 50% abv.
Supposedly, Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. made this recipe over 100 years ago. Although the exact mashbilll of this small batch, bottled-in-bond isn't known, it is rumored to have high rye content with some malted barley and be at least 4 years old.
Nose: sweet honey and that bourbon aroma.
Palate: sweet, a slight bitterness, feels like drinking watered down honey without the expected sweetness.
Finish: short, dry, low spice levels, mostly bitterness.
I was expecting much more, but was a little surprised because it tastes more like a bourbon than a rye, too simple, and lacking that intense spice on the tongue that I was expecting. I love that bourbon-like nose though!
