Glengoyne 12, 43% abv.
Interestingly a mix of first-fill sherry, refill sherry, and first-fill bourbon hogsheads.
Nose: sharp, a weak combination of white grapes and wood, but the white grapes are more noticeable. Seems to last.
Palate: light, initial palate is white grape juice
mid palate has some smoke and wood, bitter,
back palate has a burnt toast flavor. A little vegetative overall. Later on its mostly young tofu and burnt bread.
Finish: short, residue from the pseudo-sap from small short tree branches.
Funny thing is the bottle says its matured or finished in sherry casks, but I seriously couldn't tell. Either 12 years is not enough, those sherry casks were end of life, my tongue has been too accustomed to real sherry bombs, or I can't feel sherry casks... or perhaps all of the above. The juice is not bad though, hovers around wood and burnt toast, with a short finish. Wonder what the older, more mature bottlings are like.
