John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend 200th Anniversary, Johnnie Walker, 51% ABV

Inspired by the release of “Old Highland Whisky” in the 1860s, Johnnie Walker has created the John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend for its 200th Anniversary!

The first whiff introduced lots of spice, pepper and cinnamon, before opening up to pleasant ripe fruits, red apples and Peckham pears, apricots, honey. There are hints of light peat, maritime saltiness even, which makes this blend so very intriguing.

On the palate, the initial heat and spice was a bit much, but as you leave it to roll on your tongue, the whisky opens up to something really beautiful. Sweet honey, vanilla, oak, malted barley; fresh and very uplifting indeed! The finish is medium to long, almost like an assortment of dried fruits, apricots and sultanas, dry, with some light smoke.

If you were to ask me, this is probably one of the best blends from Johnnie Walker that I’ve tasted thus far, probably only trumped by the Bicentenary Blend, and that 51% is perfect to accentuate the notes in this whisky. Very well balanced and a fitting tribute to John Walker & Sons 200th anniversary!
