These older Japanese decanters... hit or miss with like 95% misses.
Nose: a very full bodied aroma set, something like dehydrated grapes with young tree branches, sweet vinegar, hints of a type of Worcestershire sauce, heavily seasoned oil, a sort of sour chalk/maganese, hints of fresh machine oil, generally sweet.
Palate: light to medium body, initial palate has an oily feel, light wood juice, sugar, mid palate has a good amount of seasoned wood with syrup, develops body, back palate has a little bit of diluted floral honey, base is diluted sugar, slight hints of something akin to smoke, smoked twigs, plastic wood in a syrup marinade, but there seems to be dirty water at the end.
Finish: medium to long, mostly diluted honey, light diluted tea, the wood part of smoked wood.
Not bad, seems to have some mystery to it and perhaps a hint of complexity and is hard to describe, but young wood dipped in diluted honey summarizes it. I suspect there is some grain in here, but whiskybase doesn't seem to suggest so. Better than expected to be honest, but I should be conservative.
