This cask was split across 3 retailers, and the WhiskyBase listings for these range from 88 to 91. As someone who likes the cola fizziness I tend to get from Tamdhu, I had high expectations.
Nose: Complex rancio with elements of raisins, blackberry, strawberry compote, sarsaparilla, milk chocolate, macademia, but alas with a significant sulfuric overtone
Palate: Oily, nearly butyric couverture chocolate, cashew butter, dates, wine gums, sulfur.
Finish: Short and rather subdued for the presentation. Moscato green grape stem notes, a brackish undercurrent that brings to mind liquorice, and then some beautiful hints of banana bread, as well as rose, lychee and raspberry (a.k.a Ispahan) macarons buried far, far too deep.
Score: 83
There's a beautiful cask underneath the sulfur, though I feel it doesn't quite flatter the Tamdhu distillate. What a shame. There are some beautiful notes that are buried too deep. The finish is thin considering age, sherrying and ABV.
