1 oz @vermouthdolin Sweet vermouth⁣

1 dash orange bitters⁣

stir, strain into a coup, garnish with expressed orange twist and a brandied cherry. ⁣
⁣
So this is basically a Bijou. I mean, it is a Bijou, but I'm using a really unique gin. Peddlers is a gin made here in Shanghai that uses a bouquet of botanicals from across China. In particular Szechuan peppercorn which is also called numbing spice. That flavor comes through strong and really transforms this drink, adding a tingling spiciness to the already herbal bijou. ⁣

Bijou means jewel in French and was named because it combined three liquors whose colors correspond to three jewels. Gin for diamonds, Sweet vermouth for rubies, and green chartreuse for emeralds. ⁣

On a related note, some of you might have noticed I've been posting a lot of sweet vermouth drinks recently. So this is a great time to address a cause I'm fairly passionate about. Vermouth abuse. Everyday innocent bottles of vermouth are left unrefrigerated and unconsumed as they slowly oxidize. Take the time to refrigerate your vermouth and drink it in a timely manner. Be a responsible vermouth owner and together we can stop #vermouthabuse .⁣
