The Diamondback⁣

The Diamondback⁣

The name Diamondback makes most people think of a rattlesnake, and this classic cocktail is often mistakenly made with high proof spirits (100 proof rye, 100 proof applejack, and green chartreuse) that imbue a potent bite to match the supposed namesake. ⁣

The actual origin of this cocktail's name is a bit less venomous and the original recipe matches that as well. The drink was created at the Diamondback Lounge in the Lord Baltimore Hotel and was named for the Diamondback Terrapin (from which the lounge also took its name), which is Maryland's state reptile and a pretty big deal around those parts. The original recipe calls for rye, apple brandy, and yellow chartreuse but doesn't specifically require over proof spirits. The end result is still going to be a strong, spirit forward drink. ⁣

For this drink I tinkered with the original spec a bit. This one is ⁣

1.5 oz @nikkawhisky_hk Nikka from the Barrel⁣

.75 oz Calvados Pays d' Auge⁣

.5 oz @strega1860

2 dashes @thebittertruthcompany Creole bitters⁣

stir, strain, serve up garnished with a brandied cherry. ⁣
