The Jeez Louise
1.5 oz @averna
.5 oz Cynar
.75 oz @cointreau
.75 oz lime juice
Shake and strain over ice. Top with soda. Garnish with an orange wheel, or in this case an orange twist and some brandied cherries.
This has quickly become one of my favorite cocktails, and if you like Amari it will quickly become one of yours. Created by Chris McMillian ( @revel.nola ) at Revel Cafe & Bar in New Orleans, it is the perfect blend of bittersweet and citrus.
Averna is on the sweeter side for Amari, with a flavor that's full of anise, lemon, juniper and sage.
Cynar is actually both an aperitif and digestif. It has a much more vegetal, bitter taste, with strong herbal flavors coming from artichoke and eucalyptus.
Together these two great Italian amari really compliment each other and form a fantastic base for this modern sour that's well on its way to becoming a classic.
