It’s been months since I had this curiously-named beer and taken its picture but I’m still so taken with the colour.

A Ferret… is one of numerous pastry sours and fruited sours that modern craft breweries are putting out with the aim of pushing the boundaries of what beer can do — or maybe it’s what you can get away with calling beer.

The goal here was to recreate raspberry ripple ice cream in a beer, and aroma-wise Alpha Delta have been pretty successful: I’ve seen comments online that the flavours come across a bit artificial, but that’s the flavour of raspberry ripple that I recall from my childhood! On the palate, A Ferret… is a bit thin for 8% ABV and for a beer purporting to remind you of ice cream; perhaps it’s also a case of my Omnipollo bias showing.

I enjoyed this as a one-off. If you’re in the mood for a nostalgia trip like what I’ve described, look out for this one!
