Macallan Celebrates 55th Anniversary Release of Iconic 1971 James Bond Film Diamonds Are Forever With First Ever Red Wine Cask

With all this talk going around about who's going to be the next James Bond, we've seen speculations range from Idris Elba all the way to Timothee Chalamet, and now Cillian Murphy. Who will be our next 007 Spy?

We don't know, but we do know that it's time to set aside the Vesper Martini - shaken, not stirred - for James Bond's whisky serve, The Macallan.

Macallan is gearing up to celebrate the 55th Anniversary of the release of iconic 1971 James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever, which was played by none other than Sean Connery.

And to commemorate this milestone, Macallan is putting its money where its mouth is and doing some special - what appears to be the distillery's first ever Red Wine Cask maturation! Macallan has long emphasised the use of Sherry and Bourbon, European and American oak casks, but seems to be starting to tiptoe into the realms of new casks, where the upcoming Macallan Distil Your World Paris appears to also sport a Cognac cask for the first time!

And so we now have a special commemorative Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release that's distilled in 2007 (because... obviously!), and aged for 18 years in Red Wine Casks and Sherry Seasoned Oak Casks. The new expression is bottled at 45.5% ABV.

This limited release of The Macallan celebrates the 55th anniversary of the classic James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever. Inspired by the film, this is a whisky which goes on a journey through the key themes, locations and spycraft.

The brand describes this release as "an exploration of the film’s archive as it has never been seen before." The packaging colour is inspired by the cobalt blue of the film’s title sequence with illustrations offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into production of the classic film, depicting themes of "clones, laser beams, the villain’s white cat and the Las Vegas lair."

Official tasting notes suggest aromas of polished oak, vanilla bean, and rich dried fruits. Palate opens with smooth layers of caramel and cocoa-dusted truffles, revealing fruit-driven complexity and a hint of nutmeg before a long, refined finish.

Matured in red wine casks and sherry seasoned oak casks, the distillation year is - of course - '007, as in 2007, and aged for 18 years.

This expression is now available through The Macallan's official website.
