Andalusite | Bighand Bros. Beers
Best Bitter | ABV 4.0%
This beer recently clinched the Gold Medal in the English Mild/Bitter category during this year's 2024 World Beer Cup that was held in Las Vegas on 24 April, honoured to try this!
Pours a beautiful amber (reminds me of fossilized tree resin too), A unique blend of malts, it's not overly sticky, doesn't linger and I don't mind this as I usually don't like malty beers in general, especially when they warm up. First tasting notes I get is creamy coffee, like a latte, or the sea salt macchiato foam that bubble tea shops top off their milk teas/regular teas with.
My father's unfiltered review:
"A hybrid beer - of a dark and light ale. It has the light flavour of a dark ale, but stronger than a light ale. Very smooth, it has a unique taste but I can't describe it and honestly, I don't mind drinking this frequently (he got a death stare from my mum). Also hor, do you know Germans like to drink dark ales warm?"
We both also agreed that there's a burnt caramel profile in the middle, and it's more pronounced when warmer, kinda sweet but in a crème brulée 'caramelised sugar' way. And also that this paired well with the meats we got from @ginkakujionishisg or Yakitori skewers.
My mum's unfiltered review:
"Why do all beers taste all the same to me?"
