The next pick is from an Australian brother and sister duo, whose hugely popular track “Big Jet Plane” was the Number One Track of the 2010 @triple_j #hottest100.
The group is @angusandjuliastone and the album is “Down The Way”, which is their second studio album.
This album had a wider array of influences and is filled with textured arrangements, making it a much more mature release than their debut album “A Book Like This”
Angus and Julia wrote, performed and produced the album, with the songs ranging from panoramic chamber pop -- often with a rootsy, Americana edge, to really great quality folk songs. The siblings trade instrumental and singing duties and the result is something truly deep and beautiful.
The album was a Number One album in Australia and also proved popular in France. The album was awarded Album of the year at the 2010 @aria_official awards, and also won the Best Adult Alternative Album, Best Cover Art, Producer of the Year and Single of the Year for “Big Jet Plane”.
Julia Stone has been quoted as saying “The songs looking back are a combination of the great joy that comes with new places and people and adventures and then also memories of the way things used to be. I don't think the album is about wanting to go back to those times before, perhaps a little bit about what it feels like to us to be traveling and changing.” We really get these feelings when we hear this album.
Now for the beer, now when we read about Angus Stone’s home, a secluded 120 acre Byron Bay farm that’s both a rustic hinterland retreat and artful collision of structures and decor with yurts, we instantly thought of the perfect brew for that setting and for this album.
The brew is the Southside Saison from @bellsbeachbrewing. We absolutely love the light and subtle flavours of banana and cloves in this light, fruity and sweet beer. It’s a really refreshing brew and the farmhouse feel matches perfectly with the tunes that Angus and Julia have created.
