A SUPERGROUP AND A SUPERBREW
The next pick is one and only album (so far) from the Supergroup “Them Cooked Vultures”, formed as a collaboration between @queensofthestoneage Vocalist / Guitarist Joshua Homme, @foofighters Vocalist / Guitarist Dave Grohl and @ledzeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. With Homme providing lead vocals and guitar, Grohl playing drums and Jones basically playing everything else 😊 (he played bass, keyboards, clavinet, piano, keytar, lap steel guitar, slide bass guitar, mandolin, violin and provided backing vocals); the supergroup was formed.
The album that came from this trio of talented musicians is one where the influences from Queens of the Stone Age and Led Zeppelin are unsurprisingly prominent; is very good musically and has been described as a “hell of a lot of fun”. There is a looseness to the album that seems to come from Homme and Grohl living out a dream; almost like a boyhood fantasy. The album made the Top 10 in 8 countries and “New Fang” was voted as one of the songs of year by @triple_j listeners in the 2009 #hottest100.
Now for the beer, and this album and the band would no doubt produce a great musical session. The beer had to be a great beer drinking session brew, so our friends from @bentspokebeer delivered the perfect session brew. The brew for this musical/beer session is the Foggy Pale Ale. Using a tasty combo of Mosaic and El Dorado Hops, this brew rides steady at 3.8% ABV and loses no flavour. It was a favourite of ours and many others at the @gabsfestival. The haziness of the brew, with the hoppy citrus flavours and the dry finish was a real winner.
