Dainton Beer Supertrooper Imperial NEIPA x Metallica – Master Of Puppets

MASTER, MASTER; WHERE’S THAT DAINTON BEER I’VE BEEN AFTER?

In preparation for our day out at GABS in Melbourne, the next pick is one of the best metal albums ever made and the best beer we’ve had this year. The album pick is the third studio release from @metallica, the brilliant “Master Of Puppets”. The album, tragically is the last time we’d hear from the amazing bassist Cliff Burton before his passing in a bus accident in Sweden during promotion for the album.

Although Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets are similarly structured, the musicianship on Master of Puppets is more powerful and epic in scope, with tight rhythms and delicate guitar solos. The band was motivated to write al album that would impress fans and critics, with the songwriting process starting with "guitar riffs, assembled and reassembled until they start to sound like a song". After that, the band came up with a song title and topic, and Hetfield wrote lyrics to match the title of the song.

The album was mostly recorded under the cover of darkness, with recording sessions starting at 7pm and finishing between 4 and 6am. The track “Leper Messiah” gets it’s title from the David Bowie song “Ziggy Stardust”, specifically the line "making love with his ego Ziggy sucked up into his mind, like a leper messiah."

Now the beer we’ve picked matches this album for one very important. It’s the best beer we’ve had so far this year, so it really had to go with the album widely regarded as a masterpiece. While the ‘Tallica boys are blasting with musical power and brilliance, the Dainton’s are blasting us with hoppy power and brilliance with their Supertrooper Imperial NEIPA. For a beer with 10% ABV, it really goes down smoothly, with the flavours of beer still there so perfectly without the booziness of a lot of 10+ % ABV beers. It still packs a perfect punch, with the bold, juicy winning us over and the smooth mouthfeel gliding us home like a brilliant Cliff Burton bass line.
