Don't we just love DEYA over here? And so with a name like "Moon On A Stick" along with such evocative imagery for a label, how could we pass this IPA up!
As a quick recap, DEYA was started in 2015 by Theo Freyne, who was greatly inspired by American beer culture and took to learning all he could about how to make great beers. After a degree in brewing and several internships, he was ready to scale and settled down in Cheltenham, UK. Their biggest hit so far has been the Steady Rolling Man Pale Ale, but really in our experience their IPA's are just awesome all around, mainly focused on fresh and aromatic hoppy greenhouse IPA's.

And so today the Moon On A Stick IPA gives us lots of oats, a pinch of caramalt, and of course heaps of Citra, Idaho 7 and Strata for a hop combo.
Let's go!
Beer Review: Moon On A Stick IPA, DEYA Brewing, 6% ABV
Tasting Notes
Colour: Pineapple Punch
Aroma: Super fresh and juicy scents of pineapple and apricots, just a couple of pineapple leaves tossed in to give it a slight darker leafiness. It’s really citrusy and tropical, some oranges and pomelos too. Really vibrant.
Taste: Medium-bodied, great richness. Again, super fresh and juicy. It’s giving pure pineapple juice with a touch of that leafiness, grassiness and diesel that comes through from the back. Really plush and concentrated body that’s expressed in such a velvety manner.
Finish: Some of that dank persists into the finish, here with a slight oiliness and some black pepper. A really nice and clean, plush finish. Some leftover aromatics of those pineapples, oranges and pomelos.
My Thoughts
An absolutely wonderful IPA - this has all the richness, such a plush and velvety texture, vibrant tropical and citrusy fruitiness, and some evolution along the way. I can’t tell which aspect makes me love this so much, but if I had to pick one out, it’d probably be the incredibly plush texture that carries this concentrated fruit punch.
I also do love how the dankness here is present but restrained so it really none of that bitterness makes it through, and so it’s just the hoppy aromatics - that might sound easy enough, but that requires loads of fresh hops and a great control as to when to apply them and get them out. Mighty impressive!
This is a fresh and perfectly done IPA - it’s the IPA that’ll convince your friends who don’t do beer that this is what they’re missing.
Kanpai!
