Deeds Brewing Daydreaming in Autumn x Live – Mental Jewelry

THE BEAUTY OF DEEDS BREWING AND DAYDREAMING IN GRAY

The next pick is underrated in the music world but well loved amongst their fans, the debut from Live, the amazing “Mental Jewelry”.

The lyrics written by Ed Kowalczyk come from a deep spiritual place. Many of the songs on Mental Jewelry are based on the writings of Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti, who stressed the need for a revolution in the psyche of every human being and emphasised that such revolution cannot be brought about by any external entity, be it religious, political, or social.

“Mental Jewelry” was the first release as “Live”, having previously released the album “The Death of a Dictionary” under the name Public Affection, under which it also released the EP “Divided Mind, Divided Planet”. You could say this album is a hidden gem itself, with the album containing lots of great songs which are not as well known compared to their later releases. This album really stacks well very well against their other releases, and their subsequent releases can draw inspiration in the sound and the lyrical content from this album.

Now for the beer, and a spiritual and a smooth moving album like “Mental Jewelry” needs a spiritual and a smooth moving brew to match. Our friends from @deedsbrewing have delivered so beautifully with their “Daydreaming in Autumn”. This DDH Pale Ale highlight some brilliant hops from New Zealand, with Kohatu, Wakatu, Wai-iti and Mosaic featuring so nicely in this brew. This is really a brew for playing by a campfire or fire pit with this album playing perfectly alongside.
