The next pick is an album from an iconic voice in the music world, the incredibly talented Stevie Nicks.
“Bella Donna” is Nick’s debut album; in which she wrote all of lyrics and composed all of the music. She then called upon her musical friends and contacts such as Tom Petty, Don Henley; as well as session musicians Waddy Wachtel, Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band pianist Roy Bittan, and Stax session man Donald "Duck" Dunn of Booker T. & the MGs. The album also marked the first recording featuring Nicks' backing vocalists, Sharon Celani and Lori Perry, who still record and tour with Nicks today.
The album was written in 1979, in between sessions for her third album as part of Fleetwood Mac, Tusk, released in October that year. When asked about “Bella Donna”, in 1981 Nicks said “'Bella Donna' is a term of endearment I use and the title is about making a lot of decisions in my life, making a change based on the turmoil in my soul. You get to a certain age where you want to slow down, be quieter. The title song was basically a warning to myself and a question to others. I'm thirty-three years old, and my life has been very up and down in the last six years.“
The album was huge hit over many years, with four singles performing brilliantly on the charts, the album reaching platinum status less than three months after its release, and reaching and in 1990 was certified quadruple-platinum for four million copies shipped. The guitar riff from “Edge of Seventeen” also appeared in 2001 when it was sampled for the Destiny’s Child track “Bootylicious”.
Now for the beer, and the Father and Son duo from Fury and Son have come up with a perfect match for this excellent album. Their Pilsner is honestly one of the best Pilsner’s going around, with really tasty malt layers; fresh stone fruit and citrus aromas and a clean and dry finish making for a really good brew. Some Pilsner’s can be a little thin, but not this one. It has all the best bits just like a great Stevie Nicks lyric.
We can imagine Reno having this album blasting through the brewery while this tasty brew works its way through the brewhouse.
