Beer Reviews

Ocean Reach Brewing "Black Hole Sun" DDH Pale Ale x Sound Garden - Superunknown

Part II of the ORB session

The beer that fits perfectly our next album pick, both by name and definitely by nature is the “Black Hole Sun” DDH Pale Ale. This beer doesn’t only wash away the rain; but it washes away our thirst with brilliant flavours. The brew that Ocean Reach Brewing have created is a perfectly hoppy, juicy brew, with citrus flavours. The beer is a really great Pale Ale, and we really love the Double Dry Hopping (because if something is that good why not do it twice)

Now the album is one that we if it was going into a beer, it would go again and again and again. It is the fourth studio album from @soundgarden, “Superunknown”. The album was released 10 years after the band started in 1984, at the height of the “Seattle Sound” era and remains one of the best albums to ever come out of the 90’s Hard Rock and Grunge Scene.

Kim Thayil mentioned during recording audio commentary for the 20th Anniversary of “Superunknown” for the band that the process of creating the music was driven by hearing the lyrics written by @chriscornell, and the members of the band working through creating a groove for the sound for the album. There are so many brilliant moments on this album, probably the most brilliant being “The Day I Tried to Live”, a song that didn’t do that well when released but a song that the @soundgarden fans love. @btbamofficial also pay massive respect to this song with their version included on their 2006 Album “The Anatomy Of”

The album was a huge success, and remains the bands most popular album. "Spoonman", and "Black Hole Sun" both won Grammy awards, the album hit top spot on the album charts in 4 countries, and the Top 5 in another 3. The album has sold over 4.5 million copies and “Black Hole Sun” (a song described by @chriscornell as “just sort of a surreal dreamscape, a weird, play-with-the-title kind of song”) was the 22nd most popular song in the @triple_j #hottest100 of 1994.
