The next pick pairs one of the Australia’s best song writers, Ian Kenny and his band Birds of Tokyo, with our good friends and talented brewers from On Point Brewery.
There are so many brilliant things we can say about their self titled album, but the information from the bands website says it all.
“This album carries with it the weight of one man’s world… the entire emotional gamut of a love lost, and the broken heart it left in its wake, set to breathtaking music fitting of such depth and complexity. And it is this journey into such deeply personal territory that makes this the Birds Of Tokyo’s most meaningful and powerful album.”
The themes of love lost and a broken heart are really strong, and there a powerful tracks all the way through; none more “If This Ship Sinks (I Give In)”; which is honestly one of the most powerful pieces of music we had heard in a long time. The lyrics on this album come from a really personal place and the voice of Ian Kenny really pierces though in the best way.
A powerful album like this really needs an excellent brew that can hold its own in the best way. With it’s tropical hop aromas, clean malt body, and refreshing finish, this beer is the perfect companion for this album. The boys from On Point have made it really simple; just simply enjoy the lyrics of Ian Kenny; which is that something special in the air, this beer will hit the spot; which makes it the perfect session ale.
The use of Mosaic and Galaxy hops are just the best; with this visually appealing beer immediately making its presence felt with a plethora of tropical fruit aromas. Back that up with a super clean malt profile that combines nicely with the stone fruit and tropical flavours, before settling into more piney and resinous notes; and then finishing off with a refreshing lingering bitterness that rounds it off perfectly. The start, middle and finish of this brew is just like this album, powerful; personal and with no weak moments.
