Ondeh Ondeh Porter

This year quite a number of local breweries had made their own version of national day inspired beers. And of course I managed to get this one to have it today to show my patriotism. 😌

Named after the Malay snack/dessert which I would say is like the Asian version of a lava cake except that it's made of rice with melted gula melaka (palm sugar) in the middle and rolled over in coconut flakes.

To be honest, I was a little concerned with the use of coconut which from experience can make a beer smell and taste a little artificial like a scented candle.

This turned out great! Poured really dark jet black, smell of chocolates and nuts with a prominent sweetness from the gula melaka. It was lowly carbonated, smooth and easy drinking.
