A NEW SOUND FOR A WELL KNOWN BAND AND A NEW CHARGE FOR A WELL KNOWN BREW
The next pick is a somewhat polarising album, mainly because perception and expectation didn’t meet with creative expression. The album pick is the “Load” album from @metallica.
The songwriting and the music of “Load” almost completely throws away the thrash metal style that the band was so well known and loved for. The band mentioned many and varied influences on this album, including Kyuss, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Primus, ZZ Top, Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, and even more mainstream acts like Oasis, Alanis Morissette, and Garth Brooks. Those influences are all there for everyone to hear; and the result in more mid paced sound, with a great hard rock groove and blue based tones and styles.
The songwriting moved away from the social and political subjects of past releases; into more personal songs about depression, the death of lead singer James Hetfield’s mother, the struggles with the death of bass player Cliff Burton and drug and alcohol addiction. Despite the mixed reaction from critics and fans, who were expecting more of the same at a time where thrash metal had basically run out of steam and ideas; the album is a great hard rock album with great song writing.
Now for the beer, and a hard rocking album with an awesome groove needs a brew with a similarly awesome groove with a charge of something new and excellent. Rogue Brewing have delivered this perfectly with their Nitro Charged Chocolate Stout. Once you give this brew the hard rock pour it deserves, you’ll get a great hit of chocolate, with the roasted barley, rolled oats, the biscuity goodness of Munich malt of Munich malt giving this brew something amazing. Throw in the delicious Cascade hop, Rogue Brewing’s own Pacman yeast and the shot of nitro; and the brew is rocking along nicely with this classic piece of Hard Rock.
