The next pick is from one of the most amazing voices in Aussie music this century; the incredibly talented Missy Higgins. The album we’ve picked is her debut album “The Sound Of White”.
Higgins wrote all the songs, and she collaborated with Better Than Ezra musician Kevin Griffin on two songs; "Scar" and "Don't Ever". "Ten Days", inspired by Higgins' break-up with her boyfriend before she travelled to Europe, was co-written with Jay Clifford from Jump, Little Children. The River" was co-written with Cliff Magness.
This album was one of the most popular albums of 2004, and we can remember her saying to @triple_j during the 2004 #hottest100, that she would streak backstage if she made the Top 10 of the countdown; which she did twice with “Ten Days” coming in at #6 and “Scar” coming in at #2.
The album full of beautiful song writing, and the lyrics are giving and sometimes heartbroken. There is a feeling of sadness in the lyrics of “The Special Two”; where Missy sings “I've hardly been outside my room in days,
'Cause I don't feel that I deserve the sunshine's rays.” Her lyrics are personal, heartfelt and that voice, oh that voice is a beautiful thing.
Now the beer is fantastic Imperial Nitro activated White Stout from Sea Legs Brewing. The “Sundae Beer” was a hit at @gabsfestival; and is now available as part of the GABS festival pack. It really does taste like what an ice cream would be if it got shoved through a brew house. It has brilliant use of chocolate and toffee malt, and loads of lactose which is always a great thing. The dry hopping and the use of Citra, Sabro and Cashmere hops are so good. And then they’ve thrown in loads of raspberry, strawberry puree and vanilla to make a delicious brew.
