The release of a Liberation is always expected and synonymous with pleasure: whether it is the very first ( 2010 ) or the following ones ( 2012 and 2015 ) and even the whites , there is nothing to throw away and it is a feat. We will not return to the genesis of the project or to the colorful personalities of Gianni Capovilla or Luca Gargano, but to the last rum rum released on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of LMDW.
A first because it comes from a unique barrel specially selected by the owners of the place, and the opportunity to see if the differences are notable with the two other Liberation 2015 and more particularly the 'full' version bottled at 58.4°. Let us recall in passing that these two come from a blend of 6-year-old rums and therefore from different blended barrels.
The packaging remains unchanged, except for a “60 years” sticker on the shiny body of the bottle, and a back label mentioning the anniversary selection (and stuck on the old label).

Liberation 2015 LMDW / 60.6°
288 bottles from a single cask (monkey cask), this Liberation is bottled at natural strength (or 'full version' as other Liberation bottlings like to nicely recall). The tasting will be done solo, before making a comparison with the classic bottling at 58.4°.
A Liberation that is still as classy in the glass, dressed in an old coppery gold color, delicious and autumnal. He cries hot tears, surely too worried about having left his barrel in a hurry.
And like any self-respecting Liberation, it does not offer a nose but a bouquet of aromas more or less sharpened by time. That of the past first, rich with a vinous and rough imprint, tanned by years of cooking in a leaden climate and trying to flee the angels. To that of his youth, inseparable plant and floral memory, imprisoning entire generations of halos to bewitch the first to open his glass prison. That of a life spent concentrating a fruity with passion, compote his thoughts until they melt and merge into a complex and silky fluid, accentuating the passage to adulthood and the blossoming of a refined and elegant young woman with an intoxicating perfume.
And the more it grows, the more it becomes refined, crystallizes its attributes until it gains depth; it gains size and maturity, gains confidence as we lose our footing. The orange peel is assumed and silky, it invites contemplation and tickles the senses. The apricot, silky and fleshy (some would say soft) invites us into a Garden of Eden where the forest has given way to a field of canes proudly standing towards a grenadine sky. A dreamlike stroll that polishes the senses and would even make you forget to put your tongue in it. A platonic love of rum that nevertheless demands liberation, so let's liberate.
The kiss is pleasant and dressed in a fruity and flirtatious red with a tangy momentum, to mark your cheek with a red-hot iron (or toasted oak). Temperamental and racy, the release is juicy, but does not forget to throw in spices, wood and salt and pepper ideas, making the foam rise to the corner of lips pumped of their sap. Her red nails pierce your skin and only honey will come to calm the fire, to restore spirit to the fervor of citrus fruits and passion under a background of peony and tired notes. Too eager to consume, politeness is no longer appropriate but burnt, already driven crazy by wanting the taste of a perfume desired for a long time. The vine is still slender, the grape is pressed just like the desire to fight again, quickly, to in turn grab this orange peel and make time bleed.
A Liberation that will liberate you to the dregs, with a backdrop of seduction and bestiality. You want some? You will get some. Rating: 88

comparison of the two Liberation 2015 full version…
The 60 year old LMDW version offers a more bestial and personal side of the rum, certainly more authentic, more slender and more all in the end: stronger and more powerful, on the nose as well as in the mouth; My preference will nevertheless go to the mouth of the full version at 58.4, richer and more seductive on the palate, but also better balanced, more melting and sunny. The LMDW version is not without merit, but offers a more vigorous and powerful Liberation, more spicy and woody ending on an iodized note. Beauty or the beast? the choice is yours…
An undeniable kinship but more personality for the LMDW version, an only daughter released in 2015 and who will soon be married. As if the consanguinity of rum had been broken.
To help you (and me) find your way around, regarding the notes:
90 and + : exceptional and unique rum, it is the best of the best
