Amrut is expanding its single malt portfolio with the launch of its new Amrut Kranthi, named after the Hindi word for ‘revolution’.
Said to celebrate ‘the Indian single malt whisky revolution’, the non-age statement single malt was made using a proprietary yeast strain and aged in a combination of new oak and ex-Bourbon barrels, as well as Madeira and Oloroso Sherry casks.
The new expression is said to have notes of tropical fruits, pomelo, coconut, spice, gentle tannins and a creamy texture.
Founded by the late Radhakrishna Jagdale in 1948, the Bangalore-based Amrut Distilleries now employs over 1,600 people across India. The producer shot to global acclaim in 2009 with Amrut Fusion—a single malt crafted from both Scottish and Indian barley that debuted as India’s first commercially available single malt on the international stage.
Bottled at 40% ABV, the expression has an MSRP of ₹3,200 (US$34) per 750ml bottle.
