Amrut Launches Oldest Ever 15 Year Matured Indian Single Malt Whisky

There's big news in the Indian whisky world, and it comes in a rather classy bottle by none other than Amrut distillery.

The renowned Indian distillery has now released the Amrut Expedition: a whisky touted as the country's oldest & rarest single malt.

Coinciding with the company's 75th anniversary, this expression has undergone an unprecedented 15-year maturation period, something never before seen in Indian whisky-making.

This spirit within was aged for eight years in a European sherry cask, followed by seven years in an American ex-bourbon cask.

Head distiller and head of international sales Ashok Chokalingam said the maturity of the expression is similar to maturing it in in temperate climate conditions of Scotland.

One of the key features of Amrut's Expedition is presented in a handcrafted, painted box, with each bottle individually engraved, numbered, and featuring a diamond-cut design with gold engravings. A silver peg measure, crafted by a Bangalore silversmith, is included. The complex metal and wood box design was said to require six months and five prototypes to perfect.

Amrut reports that 60% of the limited-edition 75 bottles of Expedition have already been pre-booked, primarily by international buyers.

Amrut's Expedition whisky is now available in major markets worldwide, including India, the USA, the UK, Europe, Dubai, Singapore, and Australia, with each bottle retailing at around Rs 10,50,000 in India, or about $12,000 overseas.
