With its origins in Trinidad and Tobago, bitters brand Angostura is releasing a new limited edition bitters to commemorate its 200th anniversary.
The new bicentenary commemorative is a blend of aged Angostura rum with a range of herbs and spices used by the brand’s founder Dr Johann Siegert in his apothecary in the early 1800s, including Angelica root, Roman wormwood and nutmeg.
According to Katie Herrmann, brand director of Mizkan America, the exclusive distributor of Angostura bitters for North America, “This release is more than a nod to our rich history; it’s about ushering in the next 200 years of inspiring bartenders, at-home mixologists and curious cocktails everywhere with a unique and differentiated flavour that will fuel their creativity for years to come.”
According to the brand, fans can expect “distinctive hints of cardamon, orange, and earthiness that are harmoniously balanced to create an unforgettable taste experience.” In addition, drinkers will also find subtle notes of “sweet aniseed and spicy top note with an astringent mouth feel, with a slight bitterness on the palate with a cooling mint finish, and a long-lasting bitterness with the cardamom engulfing the palate on the finish.”
The bitters will be bottled at 44.7% ABV, in a limited batch of 120,000 bottles. It is currently already available in select US liquor stores.
