Black Tot Rum has launched their Historic Solera Rum, the latest addition to an already impressive core range.
The expression was crafted with a blend of rums from Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica, aged using the solera method.
Using solera casks from Sherry bodegas, the new expression marks the first time a blend of rums from the three countries has been produced using a traditional solera process.
The solera method is a unique aging process used primarily in the production of sherry and some fortified wines. It involves a system of stacked barrels where older wine is drawn off and replaced with younger wine, creating layered depths within the spirit within.

Because of the Solera method, younger rum is allowed to interact with more concentrated older rum left in the barrel, acquiring richer characteristics.
Black Tot Historic Solera begins with Black Tot Finest Caribbean rum, which is aged up to two years in first fill oloroso and Pedro Ximenez Sherry butts before entering a three-tier solera system.
The rum is aged for one year in each tier before being moved to the next tier.
The expression is said to have notes of figs, plums, chocolate, warming winter spices, and lightly roasted coffee. The finish is also reportedly long, with hints of charred citrus zest that develop into ripe tropical fruits.
Bottled at 46.2% ABV, it will be available in late October at selected retailers for an RRP of £64.95 (US$85).
