Buffalo Trace (Finally) Releases Eagle Rare 12 Year Old

Bourbon lovers rejoice! The esteemed Buffalo Trace distillery has announced a new permanent addition to its Bourbon catalog: the Eagle Rare 12.

This new expression is said to have a sweet almond aroma along with notes of vanilla, toasted oak and warm toffee.

Buffalo Trace credits its recently completed $1.2 billion expansion project as "pivotal" in the return of Eagle Rare 12. This decade-long expansion added new fermenters, 11 warehouses, and a 40-foot-tall still capable of producing 60,000 gallons daily.

The distillery announced in early 2023 that this revamp would double its annual whiskey capacity, and Eagle Rare 12 appears to be among the first releases benefiting from this significant investment.

The release is also the latest in a string of unexpected news from America’s oldest distillery. Last month, Buffalo Trace made headlines by announcing a significant change to its annual Antique Collection: the addition of E.H. Taylor Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon. This marks a notable shift for the highly anticipated collection, which had remained unchanged since 2006.

Bottled at 47.5% ABV with a MSRP $49.99, Eagle Rare 12 will begin hitting shelves at select bars, restaurants, and retailers across the United States this June 2025. Following this initial launch, it will expand to additional international markets in Fall 2025.
