The iconic Caol Ila Distillery from Islay has announced its pick for the Fèis Ìle 2024.
The Caol Ila Fèis Ìle 2024 is as 13-year-old single malt finished in ex-Ruby Port French Oak casks sourced from the Douro Valley in Portugal. While Ruby Port cask Caol Ila expressions are not uncommon with independent bottlers, this is a rare instance of a distillery bottling that has been finished in Ruby Port.
The expression comes in at 54.5% ABV, with an RRSP of £185, with an outturn of 1,404 bottles. Expect a bold fusion of Caol Ila's classic maritime notes and chilli spiced Mediterranean flavours, dried fruit sweetness and smoky undertones.
Eva Cumming, Caol Ila Distillery Manager said, “I wanted to celebrate this year's Fèis Ìle with a truly exceptional bottling, especially since this marks my inaugural Fèis Ìle as Caol Ila's Distillery Manager. This expression beautifully captures Caol Ila's signature maritime smokiness, complemented by a twist with those sweeter tones. I’m looking forward to raising a glass with all of our fans!”
The limited release would soon be available to be purchased from the distillery. But even if you're not making the trip up to the Isle any time soon, Diageo, the parent company of Caol Ila, would be making Caol Ila Fèis Ìle 2024 expression available on the official retail site Malts.com next month.
